Whether you’re a parent in need of ideas to keep your children and their friends entertained, or an adult seeking a way to get away from the hustle-and-bustle of everyday life, the backyard serves as an excellent place for people to entertain themselves while embracing the soothing atmosphere of the great outdoors– all without the need for camping tents! A backyard can be the headquarters of a get-away without needing to actually get away from your house. Here are five events to keep life exciting, all within the safety and comfort of your own backyard:
Cookouts
A cookout is the beautiful crossroads of nature, friends, and food. Convenience, too! Far from needing to worry about getting a good parking spot at a park– or any parking spot at all, for that matter– a backyard requires minimal setup, and no subscription to whatever local nature park is nearby. The irony of being unable to park at a park should not be suffered when you can just pull out some tables, a cloth, and most importantly– a grill– outside. Cookouts are so tempting that you might even attract the attention of your neighbors. It’s never too late to get to know them. And as they say, the more the merrier! Food is meant to be shared, and good spirits always follow.
Treasure Hunts
Treasure hunts are like Easter Egg hunts, but not limited to Eastertime. Treasure hunts are great fun for children of all ages, but adults can have a lot of fun with them, too. A themed treasure hunt can carry anything from candy in the shape of cartoon characters to a hunt for the golden egg, whose shell contains tickets to a popular concert. Just set up a number of clues at specific locations and the hunt is on! The first clue should be given freely, with hints as to where the next clue should be. This fashion continues until the very last clue is spent, and the prize has been found. Be sure to hide the prize somewhere it won’t be found ahead of time, however!
Family Reunions
What spells a family reunion better than a backyard get-together? Your home is where your family belongs– and that can extend to your extended family, as well. A family reunion can have all manner of activities to celebrate the unity of a family, from cookouts to treasure hunts, to simply lounging about on the deck, catching up with one another. Nature has a soothing quality to it, and a backyard’s large size should allow for any family members who might not happen to get along to have plenty of space, allowing for everyone to enjoy each other’s company.
