Independent Fence Contractor vs. Fence Company: Which is Right for You?

If you want a fence, you need someone to install it for you. But, who? There are actually more options than you think. Because of this, you need to learn a little bit about the industry before you hire a fence company or contractor. This ensures that you’ll pay a fair price and get a good quality product in the end.

You see, some companies do not actually have employees. These companies bring in an independent contractor to install your fence on your property. This is quite different. For one, an independent contractor typically does not receive training from the company. They are brought in and it is assumed they have experience. They are also not eligible for company benefits like sick pay, health insurance, paid days off, and more. This can negatively affect you in several ways. They may be less dedicated to the company and either leave or not show up, with little or no notice to you.  As well, the company’s liability insurance may not cover them. Your homeowner’s insurance is going to have to pay out, at great cost and stress to you! This isn’t always the case, of course, but it is likely to happen with contractors who aren’t working towards maintaining a flawless reputation like most fence companies would be.

You want a company that treats their employees right and doesn’t bring in independent contractors to work on your fence. The simplest way to know how a fence company handles their employee is to ask them! Before you sign a contract with anyone, directly ask if your fence will be installed by full-time employees or an independent contractor who isn’t an employee.

Clearly, you want a company who only sends you the best. The next step is to make a call to a reliable fence company and ask them about it. For those in the Vidalia, Swainsboro, and Claxton area, the fence installation experts are at Central Fence! Contact us online for a free estimate, or call 1 (800) 221-6425.
