Ornamental Fence Maintenance Tips

Ornamental Fence

Ornamental fences stand out as some of the most beautiful and elegant options available, albeit with a higher price tag. Once you’ve made the investment, ensuring the longevity of your ornamental fence becomes paramount. Consistent and proper maintenance is key to preserving the aesthetic appeal you envisioned when making the purchase.

Cleaning

Regular cleaning, conducted every few months, is crucial for keeping your fence looking pristine. A simple rinse with a hose can suffice for an ornamental fence. If more thorough cleaning is needed, a solution of mild dish soap with warm water and a gentle scrub using a soft brush can be applied before giving it another rinse to complete the task.

Inspection

Perform an annual inspection by walking around the entire fence to identify any scratches, bent posts, or potential issues. Address any problems immediately, as minor issues can escalate over time. Scratches are a common concern, jeopardizing the protective coating of the fence. Obtain the exact color from the manufacturer and use an acrylic-based paint to cover minor scratches, maintaining protection and a consistently new appearance.

The Right Supplies

Given the significance of the coating to the fence’s beauty, ensure that the cleaners used are extremely mild. Harsh chemicals can damage the finish and compromise the entire fence. When scrubbing, prioritize elbow grease over abrasive brushes to avoid scratching the finish. Opt for the mildest chemicals and softest brushes, as you can add more if necessary, but reducing damage after too much has been done is challenging.

Greenery

While not a strict prohibition, exercise caution when considering adding shrubbery or vines to your ornamental fence. While the greenery may enhance the fence’s aesthetic, it entails increased maintenance. Regular trimming and cutting back of shrubs or vines are necessary, as they can attract insects and trap moisture, potentially damaging the fence. If you desire this look, proceed with caution, acknowledging the additional maintenance involved.

Opting for an ornamental fence for your home makes a timeless and elegant statement. Whether you choose to embellish it with vines, accepting additional maintenance, or keep it classic and unadorned, you’ll undoubtedly appreciate the elevated aesthetic and low-maintenance luxury it brings to your property.
