With yearly temperatures ranging from the low 30’s to the low-to-mid 90’s, Georgia’s climate is perfect for having a gorgeous lawn. That is great news for homeowners in the Claxton, Vidalia, and Dublin area. Geographically, we sit right on a transition zone, which means that both warm and cool grass types can be used on your lawn. You want to ensure that you’ll have a healthy, lush lawn year-round, and have plenty of options to do so, so consider planting one of these options:
Bermudagrass- This is the most common grass type you’ll find in your neighbors’ yards. It’s also used on golf courses, sports fields, and high-trafficked areas due to its tolerance to foot traffic, drought, and cold. That being said, it doesn’t do well when grown in a shaded area, so if your yard is very shady, you don’t want to go this route.
Centipede Grass- Centipede grass is known for its excellent heat tolerance and extremely low maintenance requirements. It requires far less attention and input than other grasses in our region. That’s not all! When it’s healthy, this type of grass even fights off weeds and other invasive grass types.
Tall Fescue- Fescue is a cool season grass that requires more water in the summer than warm season grasses. You will also need to mow it more frequently in the fall and spring because these times of the year provide optimal growing conditions. Fescue is a probably the best grass to have in your yard if you have both shade and sun, as it thrives in either.
Zoysia- Zoysia is a warm season grass that is fairly tolerant of cold temperatures, which is great for yards residing in transition zones like ours. The grass is drought resistant, although it will need more watering during the hotter months compared to other warm grass types. Although it thrives most in direct sunlight, Zoysia can also grow well in partial shade.
St. Augustine- St. Augustine is also popular in our area. It works best in hot, sunny areas. When the winter comes, St. Augustine doesn’t thrive, but it will survive the mildly cold weather we have most years.
What else does a great lawn need? The right fence, of course! Central Fence has been providing chain link fences for local homeowners and businesses for over 50 years.
