Wood, Iron, or Vinyl?

Ornamental Modern Fence

Getting a new fence is an exciting time. There are so many materials and patterns to choose from that it can be a little daunting, even. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered. While fences are made from a wide range of base components, we’ve seen it all. We know exactly what to expect from each type of fence, and what would work best for you. Here, we’ve listed a few fence makes and their benefits to ease your understanding in which kind of fence is the absolute best fence for you.

Wood

Wood fences have a natural beauty to them, and look great even unpainted. Their versatile appeal owes to their organic nature– no two wood fences are the same, each made from individual planks of wood taken from individual trees. You’re taking in a small piece of nature every time you plant a wooden fence in your yard. Wood fences can be carved and further customized even after being purchased, and the tools needed to do so are commonplace. Wood fences can be nailed in to hang things from them, from practical goods, like hanging gardens, to more eye-catching appeals, like artwork and vinyl prints– wood is a very versatile medium, and what you can do with it is bound only by the limits of your imagination.

Iron

Iron fences are beautiful, stately things. Wrought-iron fencing, in particular, is a sight to behold. Iron can be a bit pricier than wood, on average, but has a regal feel to it that just can’t be matched. Iron fences are, as you might have guessed, “hard as iron,” and can withstand a lot of abuse without breaking down. For those seeking a fence for its defensive qualities, iron fencing might be exactly what you’re looking for. Iron comes in a variety of styles, and suits a wide range of tastes, from a more casual beauty to the noble gates associated with high-end celebrity homes.

Vinyl

Vinyl fences carry a lot of pros to them. While they’re not typically known for their beauty, they can easily be carved with a pattern. They don’t rust like iron fences do, nor do they rot. Because of the way the paint is fused to the surface of vinyl paint fences, they will not need to be repainted for decades to come. They’re an extremely low-maintenance, high-quality form of fence, and budget-friendly, to boot! Vinyl fences can be constructed much more efficiently than iron or even wood can, and their prices reflect as much. Vinyl fences are a trifecta of durability, affordability, and ease-of-maintenance.
