Cleaning Your White Picket Fence in 3 Easy Steps

White Vinyl Picket Fence

Are you enjoying your vinyl fence, but worried it’s beginning to look a little worse for the wear? A vinyl fence will beautify your property while enhancing the safety of you and your family and is virtually maintenance-free. It does need a little TLC every once in awhile, though. Exposed to the outdoor elements every day, all day, your fence will get dirty, no way around it. Don’t worry, the necessary cleaning is easy to do!

All it takes is something you’ve already got in your home- vinegar. Add about 1/2 – 1 cup of white vinegar to about one or two gallons of water. The exact amount depends on how much cleaning power you need; caked on dirt from 10 years is a bit harder to remove than what has accumulated in one year.

Just dip a rag in the solution, and wipe down. It’s really that easy! Depending on how much fence you have, this really shouldn’t take long at all.

If you would like, take your hose and spray the fence down once you’re down wiping. This isn’t necessary to get the fence clean, but it will get rid of the vinegar smells that may be quite overwhelming after doing the entire backyard.

Cleaning a vinyl fence with routine maintenance will keep your white fence from becoming discolored with dirt, dust, mold, and mildew. Your vinyl fence will never need painting or staining, and there are no splinters, nails, or sharp edges to worry about. This type of fence is highly weather resistant and will not chip, fade, or rot. The average lifespan for a vinyl fence is anywhere from 20 to 40 years, as long as you keep it nice.
