Fence Decoration Ideas: Christmas Edition

Cooler weather is upon us once again, and the holiday season will be here before you know it. One of the best parts of the holidays is hanging up all of the lights and wreaths, and seeing all of the beautiful decorations outside of everyone’s homes. Fences make a great blank canvas for your holiday decor and can help you dress up your home in a beautiful way. Here are a few ideas for how to decorate your fence for the holidays.

Wreaths & Garlands

Evergreen wreaths are a classic outdoor decoration that can provide a lot of holiday spirit. A long fence with solid, flat panels is a great place to hang a single wreath or a line of several wreaths. You can also hang evergreen garlands, either in between wreaths or as their own separate decoration. Evergreen decorations look especially great on a white vinyl fence, where the color contrast really makes them pop. They’re also great for wood fences, where they lend a rustic look. Add even more aesthetic value with some bright red bows.

Strings of Lights

There’s nothing like having a light display outside your home during the holidays. A fence is a great place to string Christmas lights, as it gives you a lot of blank space to work with. Many homeowners opt for the traditional white lights, but you can also consider colored lights. This is a great option for short decorative fences, as they allow you to see your home and yard through strings of lights. Traditional string lights or icicle lights are both great options here. Lights can also be used to dress up the evergreen decorations we mentioned above.

Light Projectors

In recent years, lots of homes have started using light projectors to shine a decorative spotlight on a flat surface outside of their home. If you have one of these projectors, a fence is the perfect backdrop. You can either project a still image or set your projector to rotate through several images, like falling snowflakes. Your fence will look festive either way, and you’ll have low-hassle decorations for the entire season.

Your Christmas decoration scheme is really only limited by your imagination. Incorporating your existing outdoor decor – like your fence – is a great way to bring your entire yard together. Feel free to use any of these ideas to decorate your own home for the holidays.
