Ornamental Fencing Around the Country

Fences surround homes all over the country but they don’t all look the same, just like homes in different areas are designed differently. Some fencing types are more popular in northern areas while our southern homes are protected by a different style. We’ll look at which fences are most popular in which places to see how our country fences in yards.

Southern

Here in the south, we’re known for a few things when it comes to our houses and topping that list is picket fences. Whether they’re vinyl, wood, white, or brown, they’re a classic view into the epitome of southern styled homes. Simple, yet elegant picket fences bring a back the beauty of the antebellum period with a little bit of modern style.

Privacy and security usually aren’t a main concern when building a picket fence. After all, southern hospitality is a thing. Most fences go up as a way to mark or block off your property, keep your children and pets in, or just to accent your home.

Wood fences are less expensive and can give your home and yard a great natural feel. You can paint the wood or leave it just how it is. Vinyl is the more modern option and usually comes in neutral colors like white, brown, and black. They are mainly seen as picket fences just like the wooden ones but also come in a variety of styles to accentuate your southern home perfectly.

Northern

Brick or ornamental fences are more common in the northern states. Privacy is more of a desired feature and there’s no better way to secure your home than with a brick or ornamental style fence. The two actually go hand in hand and are usually built together to get the most out of their respective best qualities.

Wrought-iron ornamental fences can come in a wide variety of styles and are a great addition for a sophisticated look around a modern home. With brick pillars every few feet and also surrounding your ornamental access gate, you can have a stylishly secure, private property, while still being able to observe everything out of your yard.

These two fence types are actually much better for the colder weather those up north experience because extended exposure to snow and ice can warp, shrink, or expand wood panels.
