By Teresa Dixon In Choosing a Fence, Fences

Which Fence is the Best Option for Your Backyard?

Chain Link Fence in a Forest Area

You know what they say: Good fences make good neighbors. While we realize fencing may not be the most exciting topic when it comes to exterior and landscape design, they are essential, especially in the backyard. So, we are here to help with backyard fence ideas that will make your home, kiddos, and pets safer and keep that nosy neighbor of yours out of your business.

Chain link fences have been around since the early 20th century. They offer affordability and low maintenance and easily can be customized to fit around any backyard. These fences also provide security, although perhaps not the privacy you want. If you decorate with landscape and outdoor furniture, nobody will even notice it because they will be too busy focusing on the great furniture and décor. For an even better look and a longer life, consider upgrading to vinyl-coated chain link.

Wood fences are another popular choice for backyards. Besides the iconic white picket fence and lattice fence, you also can install a vertical board fence of varying heights to provide the greatest degree of safety, security, and privacy. Wooden fences also can be contoured and shaped around your property to provide individuality and character. They provide a rustic and natural element that is sure to compliment any home.

Vinyl fencing provides the same safety and security as wood fencing but with a couple of other advantages. Vinyl is more flexible than wood so can be more forgiving if your little one stumbles on to it. Also, it will not retain moisture, so it does not attract moss, mildew, or insects. The initial cost is higher than wood or chain link, but the durability and reduced maintenance make vinyl a good long-term choice for fencing. Once installed, vinyl fencing is virtually maintenance-free. Just wash dirt off occasionally with a mild detergent, rinse with a garden hose, and you are good to go.

Ornamental fences are a beautiful option for many homeowners and are available in aluminum and steel. Aluminum fences are lightweight, durable, and aesthetically pleasing. They withstand corrosion, making them ideal for homes with pools. Aluminum is also 100 percent recyclable. Steel fences are strong, long-lasting and, depending upon the style, can provide both privacy and security. They resist wind and other damage, and most are galvanized and treated to prevent rust.

We offer dog kennels that are made from top quality materials if you want to keep “man’s best friend” separate from your backyard while keeping your pet safe. They are moveable and require no back breaking labor like post digging or any fancy, expensive tools.  All you need is a wrench and you are good to go. We have plenty of size variations in stock and offer special size fabrication.

At Central Fence, we have over 50 years of experience in serving our communities.
