How to Maintain an Ornamental Fence

ornamental-fence-17

Ornamental fences are widely considered the most elegant fence you can purchase. Add to that they are also one of the easiest fences to care for, requiring very little maintenance compared to other fences. That doesn’t mean however, that they require no maintenance. Here is a list of advice on how you can easily take care of your fence.

Remove Obstacles

Be sure to gently remove anything that’s on your fence before cleaning it. Though greenery adorning your fence can add elegance and life to it, doing so does increase the risk of rust due to the moisture that plants produce. Adding plants and shrubbery is not prohibited however, just understand that it will increase the level of required maintenance.

Cleaning

Once any potential obstacles have been removed, cleaning your ornamental fence is a simple task, all you need is soap and water! Simply grab a soft cloth, some dish soap, and a bucket of warm water, then gently wipe away the grime. Beware of using materials that could harm your fence, like harsh cleaning chemicals or a prickly brush.

Preventing Wear and Tear

Speaking of rust, here is a list of different potential threats to your fence as well as ways you can prevent them from occurring.

  • Rust
  • Missing parts
  • Loose footings
  • Leaning posts
  • Scratches
  • Dents
  • Cracks
  • Chipped or peeling paint

Make a list of any additional supplies you need. Inspect your fence at least once yearly to avoid severe and expensive damage.

As you can see, caring for an ornamental fence can be quite simple! With some attention and a little elbow grease, you can keep your fence looking as pristine as the day you first installed it! An ornamental fence is a timeless classic and gorgeous addition to your property. A great investment you will not regret that can stand strong for up to 30 years if properly maintained. Hopefully, we’ve helped you feel more confident about tackling the job.
