Preparing your Backyard for a Hot Tub

Have you recently decided to install a hot tub in your backyard? With warm weather already in the forecast, this investment will have you enjoying every summer-y minute in your backyard.

In order to create a smooth installation of your new hot tub, there are a few steps in your backyard that you should take before having it delivered.

Determine a Location

Although a hot tub will be a great addition to any part of your yard, keeping a few things in mind will help you to place it in the best possible area. You will want to avoid any areas that are within clear view of neighbors or nearby roads, for the sake of your privacy. Also consider whether debris in a certain area will be tracked in and out of the tub. It’s best to avoid areas with dirt or small rocks; in fact, some installers recommend that you plan for a concrete path from the tub to your back door. Designate an area that is not surrounded by extensive foliage. Between your pump, your power source, and the high amount of traffic around your hot tub, it’s best to place it in a clear area. Finally, be sure that your desired location is free of any low-hanging tree branches and overhead power lines, as these things could compromise the safety of your tub and its users.

Prepare your Foundation

Your hot tub will need a large flat piece of ground on which to sit. Make sure that your foundation is level and large enough to accommodate the tub with room to spare. The fully installed and occupied tub can quickly become quite heavy (up to a ton!), so do not place it on a surface that will be unable to accommodate the weight. You may want to pour a concrete foundation if your backyard is largely dirt; the traffic of wet feet in and out of the hot tub can otherwise create a muddy mess.

Locate your Power Source

Your hot tub won’t be so hot without a power source. Be sure that there is an outlet with appropriate wattage within a reasonable distance of your tub location. It’s recommended that you discuss your upcoming installation with an electrical professional to be sure that your setup complies with any local regulations that may exist in your area, and to be sure that it’s overall safe for you and your family.

Once you’ve sorted out the details, you can spend hours enjoying your hot tub, relaxing out there in your beautiful backyard. If you’re looking for some fencing to add some privacy to your yard, call us today. You’ll be able to enjoy your property that much more, knowing you have a privacy fence blocking any unwanted views.
