Your pet is an important part of your family and whether he or she spends time inside, outside, or a combination of both, you want him or her to have a secluded space that’s all their own. Just like any other family member, your dog needs to unwind and get away from it all, too. Consider a dog kennel for your pet to lounge in when he or she isn’t playing or snuggling. Let’s go over some reasons you might want to go ahead and get one for your pup.
You may already have a fence that allows your pet to run around the yard safely; however, kennels serve other purposes.
Safety
If your yard isn’t fenced in but you still want your pet to enjoy the outdoors without a leash, a kennel is a great choice. You choose from a wide variety of sizes to fit your dog’s activity needs and let them run around or relax in their own space. This both prevents you from having to go outside everytime your pup does and from them taking an unauthorized tour of the neighborhood.
Shelter
If your pet spends time outside in your fenced yard, they need a place to hang out there as well. They probably have their favorite spot to play or lounge but if they want to stay outside, it’s best to give them a shelter. A covered roof gives them rest from the sun, rain, or heat as they still enjoy the outdoors. This is especially important if you will be leaving your pup outside while you’re at work, at night, or for a good portion of the day.
Practical
Although you certainly love your dog like your own child, your guests might not feel the same way. If you’re throwing a party and know that one of your friends isn’t as much of a dog-lover as you are or that your dog is a little excitable, it’s nice to have a spot for him or her to be for the duration. Also, dogs get aggravated with situations just like humans so it’s a great idea to have a place all their own that they can escape to if they want some peace. This is especially great if you have young children that might annoy your pet with too much affection.
There are some reasons you might not need a dog kennel, though. If your dog is exclusively an inside dog, with very little time outside, there’s no need for him or her to have an outdoor space. Just make sure he or she has a private space inside to retreat to. Also, if your yard has a fence and you have a covered deck or patio that you don’t mind your dog using as a lounging area, there’s no need to get him or her a dog kennel.
The bottom line is that a dog kennel is a great investment, whether you have a fenced in yard or not. The choice ultimately comes down to if a kennel is the right fit for your dog, your yard, and your lifestyle.
