Sprucing Up Your Home for the Fall

Now that summer is over, it’s easy to let your home fall into drab disarray during the winter months. With the holidays on the horizon, you might have plans for your Christmas decor, but what about the time in between? Here are some simple and fun ways to spruce up your home for the fall.

Off-Season Spring Cleaning

Spend a weekend giving your house an overhaul cleaning. Pollen and dirt have probably built up from the warm weather months, and when the cold weather arrives, you’ll be happy to have a clean home to relax in. Dust your blinds, clean your baseboards, and shampoo your carpet. You should do a regular thorough cleaning of your house for the next few months, as cold and flu viruses can easily get tracked in on clothes or other items, and you don’t want those sitting around in your home. Plus, a clean house looks more inviting than a dirty one any day of the year.

Get Decorative

Visit your favorite home decor store and shop around for some deals. You can also find great decorative items at yard sales and antique stores. If you want to stick with a fall theme, look for autumn colors like red, orange, and brown, and fall-themed items like pumpkins and leaves. Hang up rustic signs or add placemats to your kitchen table. Browse the internet for ideas, then make them your own by adding your own special touch.

Switch It Up

If you’re still using the same colors and decor scheme in your home from the spring, now is the time to make some changes. Switch out your throw pillows on your couch, and try some new curtains or a new floor rug. You can go really far and use this time to repaint a room or do other extensive renovations as well, but it’s not necessary– it doesn’t take much to make a home feel like new.

Don’t Forget the Outside

More people will see the outside of your home than the inside, so make sure it’s up to speed. A few potted autumn plants like mums will make your porch really stand out. Consider some tasteful Halloween decor, like jack-o-lanterns or a trick or treat sign. A festive fall wreath will draw the eye up and help unify your entire porch decor. Colorful mesh in autumn or Halloween colors is a popular choice or, if you prefer a more natural look, a wreath of faux leaves will look fabulous.

Enjoy the process of sprucing up your home for fall and love your new home throughout the entire season.
