The Lifespan of a Vinyl Fence

Vinyl Fence

A vinyl fence typically has a lifespan of about 20 to 30 years. This all depends of course on whether you properly maintain the fence. Thankfully, vinyl fences require very little maintenance, even as the years pass on. Here are a few reasons vinyl fences last so long.

Vinyl fences do not decay or rot like wooden fences can over time. It also does not split like wooden fences do with the constant changes of weather while constantly being outside for each season. These splits are often what lead to the biggest issues in wooden fences starting to decay or rot. These are problems you won’t experience by purchasing a vinyl fence. Even termites getting inside and chewing away at your fence is no longer a worry with vinyl fencing.

Vinyl fences are also protected from the sun in a way that wooden fences cannot be. Titanium oxide (the same ingredient as used in sunscreen) has been added to vinyl fencing making it superior to wooden fences. It is a very strong compound and protects the fence from becoming unstable, being degraded by the sun or yellowing as you can often see in wooden fences over the years.

The only maintenance you will have to worry about to keep your vinyl fence looking new for decades is the occasional light rinsing. Rinse your vinyl fence of with a simple water hose can keep it clean and nice for years to come. If you are worried about mold growing on your fence you can mix bleach and grease fighting dish soap with hot water to spray and lightly scrub away the area you are worried about.

The only issue you could run into with the lifespan of your vinyl fencing is improperly supporting or placing your fence. Without being evenly set in the ground it can begin to cause stress points that may lead those parts of the fence becoming damaged. Depending on the soil and area that you are in the securing of the main posts is another key thing to consider making sure that it is strong enough to hold up against harsh weather and winds.

Since a well-cared for fence can lasts 30 years it is wise to hire a professional to help you select the perfect vinyl fencing for your area. There are different grades of vinyl used with higher protections and they will know what you need for your area. As well, they will have the experience needed to make sure it is built and set perfectly, so that all you have to do is enjoy the long lifespan of your new vinyl fence.
