4th of July Backyard Barbecue Ideas

Are you preparing to host a backyard barbecue for the 4th of July? There’s more to a successful event than just throwing some burgers on a grill (although let’s be honest, that’s a big part of it!). Here are some tips to make sure that your backyard bash is one to remember all year long.

Store Food in Lidded Containers

Keep gnats and flies out of your dishes by serving them in containers with lids. You can set out large portions and let guests serve themselves, or you can get really creative and provide single-serving containers with each dish premeasured out. Either way, you won’t have to worry about bugs in your food again.

Use Coffee Filters to Hold Hot Dogs

If you’re worried about condiment spills, wrap hot dogs in coffee filters before serving. These cheap yet durable products are both smaller and more flexible than paper plates, making them more convenient to hold onto.

Keep Bugs at Bay, Naturally

Biting insects can put a real damper on any outdoor festivities. Protect your guests and yourself by using any of several tried and true methods to keep the bugs away. Of course, if you’re concerned about exposing your guests to toxic chemicals in most bug sprays, you have to get a bit more creative. One way you can do this is by burning herbs over your grill. Sage is one in particular that repels insects. After you’re done cooking, place some of the herb on the warm grill and let it work its magic.

Stock Up on Essentials

At any party, there’s a good chance that someone will forget something that they need. Before your event, be sure to stock up on the things that everyone can use. Sunscreen and spare beach towels should be high on your list. Your forethought will save the day.

Keep the Kids Entertained

While the adults are relaxing, the kids will want something to do. Be sure to have plenty of backyard games and toys, like frisbees and water guns, for them to enjoy the whole event.

Break Out the Sparklers

It’s not the 4th of July without some fireworks, right? Even if you aren’t a big fan of booms, you can bring the festivity right into your backyard with some sparklers. Fireworks warehouses even sell versions with extra long handles, so you don’t have to worry about burning your fingers. Light them up over a patio or other non-flammable area and enjoy.

Make this 4h of July a great one with your friends and family. Eat, have fun, and celebrate this Independence Day.
