Looking to spruce up your yard but don’t know where to start? With winter finally approaching its end and spring right around the corner, the temptation to finally be outdoors again is aching in all of us! What better way to enjoy your spring and prepare for this upcoming summer than to deck out your yard and finally give it that something special it’s been missing. Here is a list of things you can do to transform your front of backyard this spring!
Planting A Garden
The first thing anyone notices in a beautiful yard is the plant life. Flowers and plants have a way of bringing life and brightness to any area, especially the outdoors. You can separate your yard into sections with plants and make it feel like a heavenly oasis for yourself and all who visit. Don’t be afraid to explore the possibilities! Using tall plants, hanging planters and raised flower beds mixed with the typical in-ground and potted plants to give height and depth to your area. Also—don’t neglect the middle of your yard! Placing a small, but tall, patch of plants and flowers in the middle of your yard can help to separate it into sections. Even if your yard is small, separating it into sections will turn it into a wonderland, making it as if you don’t know where the next turn will take you.
Install A Water Feature
Installing a water feature is a must for any area meant to exude a calm, welcoming ambience. There’s a reason every spa and social area (like a mall or a park) will have some type of water fountain included. The sound of rushing water invokes a tranquil feeling in all of us. Thankfully, you have many options of fountains to choose from depending on your style and taste. You can go for a classic large fountain, or many small ones scattered about various areas to give your yard a heavenly feeling upon entering.
Give Yourself a Cozy Seating Area
With a beautiful new yard, you’re going to need a place to sit and enjoy it. You could go for an outdoor table by the garden for having tea, or some cushioned outdoor chairs surrounding a heater or fire pit to really give off that cozy aesthetic. Surround the seating area with some string lights or warm outdoor lamps to really set the mood and enjoy long nights outdoors with friends and loved ones, no matter the weather. Define the seating section by surrounding it with plant life and landscape edging.
Building A Shed
A simple tool shed can not only help to add more character to your yard by giving you something essential yet pretty that one of your many paths can lead to, but it can also give you a place to store your less attractive outdoor tools like mowers and weed eaters. Or if you have a smaller yard, building it just big enough to fit all your gardening tools can really help bring the yard together and declutter it.
Installing A Fence or Fences
A quality fence is a must to truly bring your yard together. Not only will it help define the area as serene and personal, giving you privacy as well, but it will also help to protect your lovely garden and furniture from wild animals that aim to wreak havoc on the beauty of your yard. Giving you a peaceful oasis to relax in whenever and however you’d like. Surround the whole yard with a classy vinyl privacy fence maybe, ordained with vine, flowers and shrubbery to really give it that fairytale feel. Hang warm lanterns or string lights over the fence to light up the yard and fence for those late night hangouts with friends.
General Decor (Lighting and Flooring)
Separating sections of the yard through landscape edging, mulch, or surrounding areas of garden with stones is a great addition to your little at-home haven. Maybe install a little bridge that steps over flowers or flowing water, or stepping stones through the weaving paths between the plants in the middle of your yard and on the edges will really turn your space into a magical haven. Making it feel as though you’re stepping through a castle courtyard. Add solar powered landscape lighting in every patch of garden to make them pop even at nightfall. Top all of this decor off with landscape lighting to really seal the deal and fully complete your yard. Some people like to add flowers and plant life around their mailbox to make it seem less plain and lonely, this really helps to add character to your yard as well!
Whether you follow this list fully or not, hopefully reading it has sparked your creative juices and inspired you to get started on designing and building your dream yard. A beautiful paradise at home for you, your family, and all of your close friends to enjoy for many years to come.
