Fencing In Your Playground

When parents take their children to the playground, they must be confident that it is a space where their children can safely play. Fencing in the playground aims to separate kids’ activities from other surroundings that could endanger them. Here are tips to consider when installing fencing in your playground.

Gate Accessibility

One of the most important features you should remember when fencing a playground is accessibility. You should ensure all children can enjoy the playground space. Therefore, choose a fence with a gate that can accommodate children with wheelchairs.

Additionally, the gate should close and latch automatically. Also, opt for a gate with a different color than the fence. This makes it easier to spot the entrance to the playground.

Space Between Bars and Height

The bars of the fence installed in your playground should be close to each other. Remember, kids are smaller than adults and can fit through small spaces. Therefore, choose the correct spacing between the bars.

Similarly, the height of the fence should act as a barrier between the inside of the playground and the outside. Many state regulations require a minimum height of six feet. This height is difficult for kids to jump over the fence. In addition, ensure your fence isn’t too close to climbable playground equipment and trees.

Easy Visibility

It is crucial to keep an eye on children when they are on the playground. Accidents could happen, and spotting incidents from the outside can help address them immediately.

Therefore, your playground fence should be open so people can see through it quickly. When making the fence visible, try to find a balance in the space between the bars so children aren’t stuck in the fence while playing.

Fence Materials

Another crucial consideration when designing your playground fencing is the material you will use. Ensure you use sturdy material that can endure various weather conditions and temperatures.

Furthermore, you want to avoid a fence that corrodes or splinters quickly since this could injure kids who touch the damaged areas of the fence. One of the ideal materials for fencing a playground is plastic lumber.

Plastic lumber doesn’t deteriorate from changes in temperature or moisture. Also, it doesn’t chip or expose its jagged edges. Additionally, plastic lumber is available in different fun colors that don’t fade because of UV protectant installed in it during production.

When fencing a playground, your main priority should be the safety of the children. Therefore, think about all scenarios where the fence isn’t safe to help you make the right choices.
