Gardening in Small Spaces

You’ve always wanted a garden. But the size of your backyard or lawn just seems too small to do anything with. Well, that’s where you’re wrong. You can actually do a great deal of things to spruce up that tiny plot just outside your door. Be creative in your efforts and you’ll have a fabulous garden fit for a palace in no time.

Certain plants just make more sense in a small area or you can even employ bigger shrubberies in a tasteful way.

Let’s start with those shrubs and bushes, shall we? You may have seen such big greens in larger areas, free to grow as far and wide as it desires. But you can tame them to just the right size for your small space. Potted shrubs tend to stay smaller and the branches grow closer together. An added bonus is the grooming you can control. Cut it down to just the right size every few weeks.

Vines can cling to your siding, allowing for less horizontal space than is necessary and more vertical decorations to enjoy. Climbers like bamboo can add a foreign look to your yard while ivy and roses on trellises can create a more rustic look.

Hanging baskets are a huge space saver. They can be stacked and potted with any sort of plant. The most popular plants for hanging baskets are spillers, plants that spill over the basket  and create even more of an aesthetic appeal. Bonus points for potting several plants in a  hanging basket to spill over each other.

Bonsai trees are a Japanese art form, more so than a plant species. They  are “dwarf trees” or special breeds of trees that are significantly smaller than  others. The cuteness of a tiny tree will definitely add a little spice into your small  outdoor garden.

There are plenty of ways to make your little garden all yours. Mix up styles and plant types to get the look you’re going for. Don’t be afraid to get creative with these sprucing up ideas to turn a tiny garden into an outdoor escape.
