How to Clean a Chain Link Fence

Is your chain link fence not looking as great as it used to? It might just need a good cleaning to get back that original luster. All you need is a little soapy water and a scrub brush to have the look of a brand-new fence in no time.

Brush a broom over the fence before you start if there are spider webs, leaves, or other debris caught in the links. Turn a water hose on the highest setting, usually “jet,” to knock off pieces of dried paint or loose rust.

Rinse the soap away thoroughly with the medium setting on the garden hose. Leaving soapy residue on the fence could lead to rust or spots.Fill a bucket with warm water and add a mild soap or detergent. Stir the mixture to create plenty of suds. Dip a scrub brush in the solution and run it down the fence, horizontally. Start at the top and work your way down, making sure to wash each link as you get to it.

If you see that some spots need a little extra attention, repeat the process, focusing on those areas with your brush. If there are rust spots on your fence, you can use a wire scrub pad to buff them away.

To brighten up your yard and prevent further rust spots for your fence, you might consider a new coat of paint for your chain links.

This easy cleaning method could be just what your fence needs to freshen up and it can transform your yard in a matter of minutes.
