How To Landscape Around Your Fence

Vinyl Fence

Once a fence is installed, you may be wondering how you can incorporate it into your garden routine. There are many ways that you can landscape right up to your fence line and create a cohesive backyard look. Let’s look at a few of our favorites here.

Rocks

One of the best ways to enhance your fence is to place decorative rocks along the bottom. You can add a few here and there or go all out and create a border or bed of rocks just under your fence. This is especially great if you have pets that like to dig and could escape or if your backyard is frequented by woodland creatures who get in from burrowing under the fence posts.

To take it a step further, add bricks or other taller rocks to create a raised garden bed up against your fence.

Plants

You may already have a garden elsewhere in your backyard but it’s nice to have different patches of flowers around your home. Plant a few against your fence and watch them bloom and spread as the seasons change. You might choose, instead, to plant vines, shrubs, or other decorative greenery.

Knick-Knacks

One great way to incorporate your style into your fence is to add your favorite things around it. Decorate your fence with little things that represent you. Place vintage gardening tools on and near the fence as decor. If you like western culture, highlight desert themes and add a few succulents to the mix. You may be a farmer or very passionate about the trade so don’t hesitate to add in a few antique tractor parts or signs around your fence. Make the area yours by translating your personal preferences into fun backyard decor.

You can create a pattern by putting your chosen landscape design every few feet or just plant or place as you wish. Either will make a beautiful addition to your backyard fence and is a great way to make your fence a part of your landscape.
