The Advantages of Installing a Security Gate for Your Summer Travel

IMG_20230215_085918942_HDR

Summer promises warm, sandy beaches in a vacation destination far away from home. But how safe is your house when you’re out traveling? That’s where a security gate comes in handy, and here are the benefits of installing one.

Types of Security Gates

There are five main types of security gates:

  • Swing gates: most common; open at one end and can extend 90 degrees.
  • Slide gates: slides sideways out of the way. Include overhead slide, cantilever slide, and v-groove rolling slide gates
  • Vertical pivot: lifts vertically upwards on one end while the other remains attached, like a railroad-crossing arm.
  • Vertical lift gate: lifts up to provide access.
  • Bi-folding gate: the gate’s leaves fold into smaller panels joined by hinges.

How Security Gates Can Improve Security and Privacy

When scouting out homes to break into, thieves usually look for the most obvious and vulnerable targets. Installing a security gate sends a message to would-be intruders that the house is well-secured and discourages security breach attempts.

Further, installing security gates is a great way to protect your privacy if you have a lot of foot traffic in your neighborhood or your home is on a busy street. A gate that needs a code or keycard to access allows you to control who enters and exits your property.

Choosing the Best Security Gate for Your Home’s Needs

Which security gate you should settle on will depend on three main factors—space, traffic, and access control. For instance, if you have such a tiny operating space that a swing, vertical, or slide gate won’t fit, then a bi-folding gate would be perfect.

You must also consider current and future traffic levels and choose a gate system that caters to that need. Likewise, consider how people access the home. If all of them access it by vehicle, it would be pointless to include a walk-through entry.

Finally, contemplate the level of security in your area. For example, if you live somewhere with high crime rates, it would be better to install a high-security gate.
