Tips for Your Next Yard Sale

Now that the chaos of the new year has passed, you can start to focus on some of your decluttering and spring cleaning goals. Whether you’re looking to get rid of a few things, make some extra cash, or getting ready for a move, a yard sale is a great way to sort through the disarray and purge your home of some unnecessary items. There’s a little more to a successful yard sale than simply putting out a sign and setting up your table. Let’s talk about some helpful tips that will ensure your yard sale is a victory.

Advertise

No one can come to your yard sale if they don’t know about it! It isn’t quite as easy as setting signs out the day before, these days. Many people plan to go to several yard sales and create a route based on the yard sales happening in the area. To get on this map, it’s important to advertise your yard sale not only on your personal social media accounts but also in large local online groups. For example, if you’re a part of your town’s Facebook group for selling and buying used goods, post the location and time of your yard sale with a few descriptions of what you have to sell.

Price

Many yard sale-ers love the thrill of a buy. They’re looking for a great deal and often won’t hesitate to haggle with you. Knowing this, you can use two techniques to sell to these types of people. Either set your prices higher than you actually want to sell the items for or let the buyers tell you what they would pay for it. Either way, you’re giving the buyer control over the price which makes it more likely that they’ll purchase from you.

Set Up

While it might seem easy to just put all of your items on a table outside and wait for people to show up, there’s a little more work that goes into setting up a successful yard sale. For those who simply ride around to find a yard sale, a small card table isn’t going to entice them to stop. Instead, spread your items around the yard. Put bigger items closer to the road to be seen easier and arrange other items in categories to make it easier to browse.

We wish you all the success in the world on your yard sale day! Take these tips and modify them to meet your needs to ensure a great sale.
