Top Attractions In Claxton Georgia

March is finally here and that means the 48th annual Rattlesnake and Wildlife Festival will be here March 14-15! This festival is a two-day event that features captive rattlesnakes, snake handling demonstrations and wildlife educational programs. Special guests Duck Dynasty’s Mountain Man and Martin, as well as Miss Georgia 2014 Maggie Bridges will be in attendance. This huge festival attracts about 15,000 visitors to Evans County each year. With all of those visitors coming, it will be the perfect time to give the area some much needed exposure.

Here are some of the top attractions in the area.

Claxton Fruit Cake

The Claxton Bakery was founded by Savino Tos in 1910. He sold the business to a loyal employee by the name of Albert Parker in 1945. After Parker passed away in 1995 the company was passed on to his surviving family members. The bakery became popular for their delicious fruit cake. This decadent dessert is distributed all over the world.

Don’t forget to visit the Georgia Bakery as well, founded by Ira Womble, Mr. Tos’ loyal baker.  Both fruitcake companies are the reason that Claxton is known as the Fruitcake Capital of the World!

The Vidalia Onion Museum

Located in Vidalia,GA, The Vidalia Onion Museum is full of local history. This city is most famous for their sweet onions, world famous in fact. By visiting the museum you will get to experience a piece of Vidalia’s history first hand! It’s a hands on interactive experience  both kids and adults will love. (Vidalia is about 40 minutes away from Claxton and absolutely worth the trip!)

Evans Heights Golf Club

Evans Heights Golf Club is located in Claxton, GA It was built in 1966 by a group of locals who enjoyed golf so much that they wanted a place to get away from it all and enjoy the game. The golf course has nine holes, and rates are affordable — they start at $10.

Splash In The Boro

Splash In The Boro is located in Statesboro GA, (About 25 minutes from Claxton.) Although the main attractions don’t open until May, you can still enjoy the indoor swimming activities. It’s an attraction worth indulging in… There are a number of slides and pools adults and children can enjoy, but until May, enjoy a warm soak in their heated aquatics facilities.

Frames ‘N Games

Frames ‘N Games is located in Pooler, Ga (About 45 minutes away from Claxton.)  This is a family oriented place that offers bowling, laser tag, an arcade, and 5D movie rides!

Have Fun in Claxton, GA

With so many activities to explore, you’ll want to save time to enjoy the Rattlesnake Roundup too!  And don’t forget to take part in the 5k, if you have the stamina.  If not, the parade is worth a look.  You can see the parade, going down Mainstreet in Claxton, at 10am on Saturday.
